The Center for Progressive Reforms and the University of Doha for Science & Technology (UDST) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Doha. The signing ceremony, which marks the beginning of academic collaboration between the two institutions, was organized with the support of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Qatar.
Background Information: The University of Doha for Science & Technology (UDST) was established in 2022 by decree of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. It is the first university in Qatar specializing in applied, technical, and vocational education. The university consists of five colleges offering bachelor’s and master’s programs in 64 disciplines, including business, engineering, information technology, healthcare, and general sciences. Additionally, UDST is actively engaged in international research and innovation initiatives.
Under the newly signed MoU, the two parties will jointly establish the Uzbek-Qatar Vocational Skills Center in Namangan, one of the most densely populated cities in Uzbekistan. The center will focus on training highly qualified professionals and facilitating the practical application of innovative technologies.
The establishment of this facility represents a significant milestone in the strengthening of bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Qatar, built on mutual trust and shared interests. It will not only contribute to economic development but also create new opportunities in education and technological collaboration.
"The new center will equip residents of the Fergana Valley with modern technical skills that are in high demand in the global job market. This project will serve as a key driver of socio-economic development, reducing unemployment and fostering large-scale investment initiatives in our country," stated Mirshohid Aslanov, Director of the Center for Progressive Reforms.
This initiative aligns with the growing demand for skilled professionals. It will provide training in fields such as engineering, welding technology, and healthcare, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to contribute to infrastructure, manufacturing, and social development projects implemented by foreign investors in Uzbekistan. Moreover, the center will play a vital role in advancing vocational education and will serve as a hub for innovative research.
"The center will create new opportunities for professional growth and facilitate international employment for our citizens," emphasized Ashraf Khojayev.
Training at the center will be conducted in English using UDST’s advanced educational programs. Graduates will receive internationally recognized certification, granting them access to employment opportunities in the Middle East, Europe, and North America. This will significantly enhance their competitiveness in the global job market.
"Our university follows a well-established system for training technical specialists. We fully support the establishment of this center, which reflects the unique and dynamic cooperation between our countries," stated UDST Rector, Professor Salim Al-Naimi.
Representatives of the Embassy of Uzbekistan emphasized that this initiative aligns with the strategic priorities set by the President of Uzbekistan, which include expanding opportunities for youth, improving labor migration policies, and reducing poverty.
