CPR develops cooperation with French Development Agency

A group of economists, led by Mirshohid Aslanov, the director of the Center for Progressive Reforms, met with experts from the French Development Agency (AFD) on May 14. The parties discussed the current aspects of developing a green economy and integrating alternative energy sources in Uzbekistan. They agreed that improving the efficiency of the energy sector is urgent for Uzbekistan and the entire region.

Currently, 28 projects are underway in the republic with the objective of developing renewable energy sources. By 2030, it is hoped that more than 20 gigawatts of renewable energy will have been created, with the proportion of green energy in the energy balance of the republic reaching 40%. In addition, the aim is to raise the proportion of green energy in the energy balance of the republic to a record 15% by the end of this year.

A three-year program has been initiated for the construction of large renewable energy facilities. This program includes the operation of 28 large solar and wind power plants with a combined capacity of 8 gigawatts by 2027. Additionally, the program entails the construction of 944 kilometers of high-voltage power lines, 6 large substations, and the installation of 18 electric storage capacities with a combined capacity of 2.2 gigawatts.

At the meeting, Mehdi Benaissa, the head of the AFD's target group on energy, highlighted Uzbekistan's significant potential in this regard. He noted that the country's leadership is interested in developing a "green" economy.

The AFD plans to implement several projects aimed at transforming Uzbekistan's energy sector using sustainable and efficient technologies.

The meeting also saw the discussion of potential collaboration between AFD and CPR, with the possibility of involving CPR experts in the evaluation of prospective energy projects. At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to enhance their cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
